Marywood University art students, Krista Perdomo, Staten Island, N.Y., art therapy major, and Leagen Wallace, Coatesville, Pa., arts administration major, were recently awarded $500 scholarships from Frank Dubas, organizer of the Lennon Mural Project in Scranton, Pa.
Mr. Dubas took his love for John Lennon and brought it to life through the mural project that is painted on the wall at 518 Lackawanna Avenue. He invited art students, staff, and faculty from Marywood University to come up with original portraits of the rock and roll legend to be used as input for the mural. While the focal point of the mural is John Lennon’s face, which was submitted by Krista Perdomo, the word ‘imagine’, submitted by Leagen Wallace, helped to tie the concept together.
Mr. Dubas said, “if you could summarize John Lennon in one word it would be ‘imagine,” and he used that word and he challenged the world to imagine. Even if we look at our local area, you could look around and imagine what can be accomplished.”
